Crying Over Spilled Wine

They say you shouldn't cry over spilled milk. But what about a million dollars of wine? There may not have been crying but there were people running when a shelve of almost 7,000 bottles of wine tipped over at a grocary store in Wisconsin. In Flight Music

I've done a fair share of flying. At least for a 25 year old who doesn't travel for business. My luck flying has been poor at best, with every flight I've ever been on having some sort of delay or rerouting. I've never been on the same flight as someone famous, heck, I've never gotten a seat next to the hot chick on a flight. So you can imaging my jealousy when I found this video of Mat Kearny performing in flight. Also here's the photo of the burger van getting run over by a Range Rover from our weird news from across the pond.

Halloween Candy and You

I'll admit it, I'm not all that into Halloween. I haven't been since whenever it is you stop trick-or-treating. But when I was in elementary school I loved it. Dressing up and getting free candy, I'm in. It was all about out doing my brother and sister for how much and what kind of candy we got in our little pumpkins and once those filled up too much, pillow cases. When we got home we would dump out all of our candy sort it into categories and then pick what we wanted. So I really like this article from gawker.com. Tiny Candy Bars-This is now the standard ration for people who show up at the door: one "party sized" treat. This is fair and just. It says that you care about Halloween and traditions and children and family values and all that great American b.s., but you don't care too much. You're doing your duty and, while you're happy to do it, you're not going to go over the top or anything. What kind of candy you give out doesn't really matter, because kids will be happy with any sugary bribe..

Sweet Tarts-Well, it's not just Sweet Tarts but anything non-chocolate based like Skittles or Starburst or Lifesavers or something like that. Like the person who gives out the little "party sized" treat, you're into Halloween and doing your duty, but you want everyone to think that you're a little bit wacky and crazy. You don't like chocolate. No, that's too cliche! You're bright and sunny and fun.

Candy Corn-Who gives out candy corn to trick or treaters? Yes, it is the traditional seasonal treat, but you don't give it out to kids so it gets all clumpy and gross at the bottom of their trick or treat bags. That's nasty. Just put it in a dish on your desk or your coffee table or something. This just means that you're way too into Halloween and not very smart. Also, you don't know what kids like. I sure hope you don't have any.

Tootsie Rolls-Tootsie Rolls are totally the little black dress of Halloween candy. No one goes out and buys Tootsie Rolls normally, but then when you get them at someone's house and you get home and eat them, you're so happy that someone gave them to you. They're simple and different and classic and always great. Who doesn't love a Tootsie Roll? You're probably a very cool and stylish person who has a great wardrobe and a very well-appointed house. People don't think to ask you for advice, but when you give it, it's always spot on. Some people might think you're plain, but, to me, you're just plain great.

Lollipops-Lollipops are always the only thing left at the store on the afternoon before Halloween, because they're sort of lame and kind of an afterthought. You are the kind of person who really feels like he has to give out Halloween candy but you're either too busy or lazy to get to the store before the last possible second, so you have to buy the only thing left, so you get two bags of Dum Dums and hope that the kids will like the mystery flavor because, you're sorry, but this is all you had left and it's going to have to do. Everything in your life is just like those Dum Dums.

Full Candy Bars-You're just an annoying show off. You want to impress all the parents in the hood that you make so much money or you're so cool that you are splurging on giant sized candy bars. When handing these out to kids, whose eyes light up when they see you pull them out of the box from Costco, you're looking in the eyes of their parents thinking, "Yeah, I'm giving your kid an entire Snickers. What?" as you puff up your chest in front of them. Either that or you're so emotionally scarred from childhood that you need everyone's approval, including a bunch of kids you're never going to see again—until next year, when they'll be demanding the good stuff all over again.

Anything Other than Candy-If you pull out some pennies or pencils or McDonald's gift certificates or that fudge you make that everyone in the office says is really amazing or, god forbid, apples, then you are an awful killjoy sadist who should just shut off your light and shun the world. Jerk.

When I'm 82 I Won't Be Killing Moose

When I'm 82 (if I get there) I doubt I'll have the energy and physical skills to do what this 82 year old grandmother from La Crosse did last month. She was on a hunting trip with her son in Canada and shot a HUGE moose from over two football fields away. The moose's' rack was over five feet across. The moose is so big it won't even fit in her house, her son needs to build her a new trophy room for it. Joyce Herlitzke picked up hunting when she was 78 so she could spend more time with her family.

I can't imagine what I'll be doing at that age but I'm sure it won't be killing moose. Hopefully I can be that active though. My grandpa has set a good example for me. He's 91 and he still loves going up north riding around on the ATVs and cutting down trees.

Epic Hot Wheels Track

I love playing with Hot Wheels and seeing this video puts everything I've ever done with hot wheels to shame. Enough of me, lets get to this awesome video of a 2,000 foot Hot Wheels track that goes through 14 rooms.





The track was made for a charity for "Hope for Gabe" which helps fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

College is Broken so Watch IMF Guy Dodge Eggs

I'm stretching today for a title I know. A few recent studies have shown two things about college. One, college students critical thinking skills are not improving according to a NYU study. And two, college costs too much. This is shown because for the first time ever the amount college students took out for loans was more than $100 Billion! With these too things in mind I have to ask myself if college is still worth it? I had a great time in college at UW-O and my major was very practical. We were allowed to use equipment and were put into "real world" situations with our broadcast. But I don't know about other majors, I mean what do you do with a english, or history major besides teach? I can't imagine there being anything practical in those majors. (I'm not picking on English and history majors fyi)

One point that was made is that maybe college students aren't gaining as much because they are teaching just to the degree or maybe too many people are getting into college. This could be, and those students who don't know what they want to do or who are just going to college because it's what their high school guidance counselor told them to do are wasting time and money, lots of money. Technical colleges seem to make more sense in many cases. They are often cheaper and are much more practical than a four year education, which has now turned into a five year education. Did I really need to take four semsters of French?

(Joking) My family history has shown that college makes you dumber. When I went to college and came back for break, my sister who was in high school at the time said I was noticeably dumber than before and I noticed that same thing about her after her first semester in college.

You Look Like...

Have you ever had someone say that you look like someone famous? Sometimes your resemblance to a star is embarrassing, sometimes it can make your day. One of my co-workers today made my day, saying I looked like someone I've even been compared to before...Green Bay Packers wide out Jordy Nelson. How could this not make me over joyous? Mainly because the person I'm most often compared to is the younger brother on Malcolm in the Middle. I found a "I look like a celebrity generator" on myheritage.com and ran a couple of my photos to see what that had to say. I like what my co work said better. I put in 3 different photos of myself and the two names that came up most were Josh Groban and unfortunately Glenn Close. Yea, not cool. I'm not even going to acknowledge the second name so lets tackle the Mr. Groban. Not saying I wouldn't mind being compared to him but he has much longer shaggy hair and darker eyes. I just don't see it so I'm going to stick with Jordy Nelson.

Not on the Menu

You all know that the fast food menus in this country aren't exactly the same as they are else where in the world. For example, you can get beer at a McDonald's in Germany or France. Here is a list of fast food menu items that you won't find in the US. Link. I like a few of these ideas. The Monster Burger from BK's in Japan sounds like something that would actually only be found in the US rather than only Japan. I mean, we are the country that came up with using meat as buns with the KFC Double Down. I also like the Trio Suprimo from BK's in Brazil. Whenever I hear fries smothered in cheddar and bacon I'm all in. Speaking of which, Hardees, how about you bring back your bacon cheddar fries. They were great.

Got Game-ing?

An article in USA Today says that more kids are playing video games. Not really earth shaking news. But the number of gamers is going up and now 91% of kids ages 2-17 are playing games. I found it interesting that the average age of a person who plays video games is 37. I guess I just find it hard to believe 60 year olds are playing Halo. I thought gaming was more of a teen thing. That's when I played most, from middle school to college. I still play but significantly less than those years. I figure the number of children gamers is up because of the new portable ways of gaming with apps on smart phones and other wireless devices. For me, it's still all about the N64. Let's take a trip down memory lane and take a look at some of the best video games in my opinion.

5.) Mario Super Sluggers (Wii) This game is why the Wii was made. Playing baseball with “real” swings and throws is how baseball should be played on video games. Fun, easy game play with fun relevant mini games. Plus you get the added fun with the Mario characters.

4.) Madden 2004 (PS2) This is the best year for Madden in the franchise. It has simple game play without too much being thrown at you. The first game with franchise mode and the best sound track to date.

3.) Super Mario World (SuperNES) It’s the game that gave you Yoshi. It stays true to arcade gaming but added new detentions. It was a great way for Nintendo to kick off a new system. I still enjoy playing it.

2.) Mario Kart64 (N64) I still play this more than any other game I own. People agree. Most used N64 games go for around $7. This game is still over $25 used. With great multiplayer modes and fun, challenging courses it took multi player racing to a new level.

1.) GoldenEye 007 (N64) Much like Mario Kart64, GoldenEye launched first player shooter games into what they are today. Call of Duty, Halo and the like all go back to this game. It’s one of the first multi player first person shooter games and had very challenging levels. I still haven’t passed the entire thing. Plus co-existing with the movie was a great thing too.

Animals Attack

I've had a lot of weird animal stories my first month here. The moose in the tree, the moose in the pool yesterday, dolphins racing people (in water of course). Today I had 3 animal stories, the bull in the bar, the antelope and the biker and the turkey and the camera lady. The only difference this time is I found video so you can enjoy the stories just as much as me. The turkey video is especially funny to me because when I was 5 my mom was chased by a turkey while she was pregnant with my sister. It was funny and scary and seeing this makes me laugh. Enjoy.

Things That Don't Work and Things That Better Work

Today I talked about some things that people think do things but actually do nothing. For example, the close door button on elevators, yeah, that doesn't do anything. Also I found out that many office thermostats don't control the temperature in the office either. Here is the complete list of stuff that doesn't work.

Now none of these items really affect me. If I have to wait an extra 7 seconds for an elevator door to close, so be it but what are some things that would upset me if they didn't work when I expect them to?

3.) Hot Water - I don't mind a cool shower every once in a while. It can wake you up in the morning or cool you down on a hot day. However, I don't like stepping into a freezing cold shower unexpectedly or coming in from shoveling in a blizzard and trying to warm up with a shower and only get cold water.

2.) My car - It's one of the most expensive things people own. It's how many of us get around. It better work. A few times my vehicle has died on the road and I had no idea what was wrong with it. Normally I open the door, insert the key and drive, end of story. That's what's supposed to happen and when something else happens I'm at a loss. If it does it again, sorry folks I'm going to be late for work.

1.) Toilets- This one actually worries me. Toilets are supposed to hold waste (the most polite work I could use) and then get rid of it no questions asked. Not many things freak me out more than when a toilet doesn't take away waste like it's done 99% of the time. I'm afraid that the bowl with overflow along with what's in it. I'm not a plumber, I'd have no idea how to deal with that problem and like they say, when you gotta go you gotta go. So my toilet better work.

Halloween Decor and 911

Halloween is becoming the 2nd most celebrated holiday behind Christmas and with that comes decorations. This week some of that decor has prompted some calls to 911. Both were in North Carolina. The first that garnered a call to 911 was a dummy with fake blood splattered on its clothes laying under a riding lawnmower. The other was a dummy clinging from the side of a house with a tipped over ladder next to it.

I think both are very clever and hilarious. I hope that the people who put up the decorations aren't fined and don't have to take them down. It is unfortunate that the police were called into action which wastes their time but that's not the people with the decorations faults. The people that called the cops are idiots. The first thing you do is call 911? Why aren't you jumping into action to try to help? Why are you staying arcoss the street when you could be the solution. If there was a guy hanging from the side of his house and you saw a ladder, would you not help put the ladder up for him. This upsets me, so clever people, keep putting up those crazy decorations.
