2011

For me, 2011 has been a great year! One of the best in recent memory. I've had a great time giving you your music over the past few months and look forward to the new music in 2012. There's so much to look forward to in 2012. Lot's of great new music; Modonna will have a new album, No Doubt will have their first album together in over 10 years and their are many more. In 2011 I slacked on my new movie viewings but I couldn't be more excited for some 2012 films. There's going to be a new Bond Movie "Skyfall", a Spider Man movie, another GI Joe movie, Men in Black III , " The Hobbit", and maybe the most anticipated movie of my life "The Dark Knight Rises".

That's looking ahead but now I'm going to look back at 2011.

Favorite Song: I recently did my Top 10 of 2011 and I had Blink 182's "Up All Night" number one. I'm so glad those guys got back together. They may suck live but their studio album is great.

Favorite Movie: "The Muppets" was my favorite movie of 2011. I didn't stop smiling the entire movie. It's great for all ages. The people behind me were in their 70's and they loved it because of the old TV show and the kids in front of me where 10 and were laughing the whole time. Everyone seemed to love it. I was just happy to see Kermit again.

Favorite Moment: Packers Winning Super Bowl 45 Do I even need to explain my jubilation for this? I was 10 when Green Bay won Super Bowl XXXI so I was never sure if I understood the magnitude. It really was worth the 14 year wait. Like in '96 when Reggie White won it, I was so happy for Donald Driver and Charles Woodson even though they both were injured in the game. That's what made it so impressive, all season they overcame obstacles to become the best. Aaron Rodgers stepped out of the Favre shadow forever. It was the best! I only hope they can do it again in 2012.

Favorite thing I did: Diamond Dancing for the Timber Rattlers. I was an assistant at the Timber Rattlers this past summer and was told I was going to have to dance in front of people at some games. I was worried. I never danced in my life. Then I found out I was one of the people in charge of chirography. It was AWESOME!!! We had over 7 dances, practiced a few days a week and it was so much fun. The best two moments were when we got to dance at Miller Park and when we got a standing ovation from over 6,000 fans at Fox Cities Stadium. You can check out all of the videos here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF3FF47ACE491F7CF&feature=plcp
Here's my favorite two:

Thank you for tuning in to K107.1 this year. It's been a blast! I hope you all have a great New Years and a great 2012!!!

Christmas Greats and Returns

Everyone knows that the holidays are the busiest times for retailers. They've been busting their butts for over two months now and just when they think it's the end and Christmas is over, crappy gifts are coming right back in the form of returns. Apparel is the most returned Christmas item accounting for 65% of the items being returned. I never like the idea of shopping for someone else’s clothes. Maybe it's because I have little to no style, maybe it's because I don't know their size and don't want to be insulting. So next Christmas, when you're thinking about buying your god son a new sweater vest or Brewers T, skip it. He wants Legos.

This Christmas I think my giving and receive both went over very well. Only a few people seemed like they didn't like my gifts and both of them received re-gifted gifts so I guess I learned my lesson on that. As for me I got some great stuff. My favorite is some photos my brother took at High Cliff State Park that my parents framed for me. I'm also looking forward to a painting my sister is going to make for me.

The one gift I received that I wasn't too sure of (sorry mom) was a plug in air freshener. I don't know what she's trying to say. Does my apartment smell? Do I smell? I thought I keep my apartment nice and clean. When I first moved in I might have mentioned it had a different odor but after living there for a while I either got used to it or it went away. I tried the air freshener last night and when I woke up my apartment reeked of sweet sea breeze, just too strong. And to whomever in the office heard me talk about this on "Morning's with Bart" and then sprayed down our cubicles with smelly spray; that's either a very funny joke or you think Bart and I smell. If the ladder is the case, please tell us so we can remedy the issue.

Top 10's of 2011

While listening to K107.1 over the past few days, you might have heard some of the on-air folks' top 10 songs of 2011. They were very fun to put together and hopefully you enjoyed listening to them. My top ten had some random and possibly embarrassing songs in there but I’m sticking with them. I had no criteria for how the songs were ordered or how they made the list. I do know I left of two or three that I wanted off the list. Here's an online audio less recap of "The 2nd Shift with Scot Frassetto's Top Ten of 2011."

The songs that didn't make the list: Coldplay-Paradise or Every Tear Drop is a Waterfall. Looking back at my list, I think one of these two songs really needed to be on the list. Great sounding tracks from a very good album. Also missing the list was Britney Spears-Til The World Ends. I loved the boy band pop princess days so Britney holds a special place in my music heart. I thought she went crazy and lost her place in the music world but when I heard Til The World Ends and saw the music video I knew she was back.

10.) Sara Bareilles-Gonna Get Over You. This song originally wasn't on my list but at the last minute I changed it. It's such a bubbly fun song with an old time radio sound with the piano and background vocals. I'm lucky we don't have cameras in the studio because you'd see me bopping and singing to this song whenever it's on.

9.) OneRepublic-Good Life. I really like OneRepublic. They might be my favorite "new" band. I like the over use of the snare drum in many of their songs. Good Life, though not my favorite song by OneRepublic easily makes my top ten.

8.) Decembrists- Down by the Water. I like folk sounding rock music and I like the band R.E.M. and the Decembrists are a folk rock band who sounds like R.E.M. They aren't the most popular band but I really enjoy them.

7.) Red Hot Chili Peppers- Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie. I probably should have put this song higher in my list. The Chili Peppers are one of my favorite bands. They've rocked since the late 80's and for them to still be making great music is pretty awesome. Rain Dance Maggie's just another great sounding tune from a band who knows music.

6.) Taylor Swift - Story of Us. Here's where I embarrass myself. I hated her in college. Then a few of my friends started playing her songs at the bars as a joke. They were catchy. Then I started working here and was exposed even more. Now I'm hooked and I can't help it. Maybe people my age don't like her but all of her songs are so catchy, I can't help it.

5.) Mumford and Sons- The Cave. When Little Lion Man came out I got into Mumford and Sons. A friend told me, "if you think that's good wait for The Cave." He was right. It's a great song and they really have an original sound. I hope they have continued success.

4.) Joy Formidable - Whirring. I just like this song. I like alternative rock and I like the mix of the female voice thrown into rock music.

3.) Foo Fighters - Walk. Wasting Light, the album this song comes from, might be one of the best rock albums of the past 15 years. It was recorded in analog, free from digital fixes. Music isn't perfect, there should be imperfections and that's what makes the Foo Fights so perfect.

2.) 311 - Sun Set in July. This is a great summer song with a great chorus. I listened to it almost everyday this summer. I actually like winter but when I hear this song I miss summer and how care free summer can be.

1.) Blink 182 - Up All Night. When Blink broke up around 2005 I never thought I'd hear them play together again. They all had successful side projects. I thought they were done which was sad because their self titled album in 20o5 was a very mature sounding punk rock album. When I heard they were getting back together I was very excited and couldn't wait for the cd. The album has sounds from all of their old ones and Up All Night gets me pumped up. I almost took them out of the top spot after I saw them on Conan. They were awful. They stink live but they still put together a heck of a song and album in the studios so "Up All Night" is my top song of 2011. I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store.

Merry Christmas

I hope everyone out there has a very Merry Christmas this weekend. I really appreciate everyone who listens and reads my blog. I've had a great time the past few months here at K107.1 giving you your music and playing the movie quote of the day everyday.

I've very excited for Christmas. I love spending time with my family and as a bonus this year I'm going to Lambeau on Christmas Night with my cousins to watch the Packers get back to their winning ways. One of my favorite things that my family does is the gift exchange game where you get to steal other peoples gifts. There's always interesting gifts and some good ol fashion revenge from someone who had their great gift stolen last year. That and last year my dad acted like a 3 year old which was hilariously annoying.

There won't be a 2nd Shift on Monday but keep listening to K107.1 for Bart's, Nick's, Alex's, mine, and a few others "Top 10 of 2011." Those will play on Monday and a few other days next week and I have to say, there are a lot of great songs that will play. Some of them you know, some you might not but it's going to be fun.

Once again MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!

Re-Gifting...Is That Ok?

During this time of red and green everything isn't so black and white. The one thing that's been on my mind is the idea of re-gifting. Is that ok to do or not? I've never done it before and I don't believe I've ever been the victim of re-gifting so it's a newer concept to me. However, this year I'm having so much trouble coming up with good gift ideas for some of my family members, re-gifting seems like a decent option. I'm not talking about giving someone some piece of junk that I just don't want anymore. I wouldn't do that but what about something that they’ve said they liked of yours?

There are a few ways I've been looking at it. If I were the person receiving the gift how would I feel? To me that's a hard one to figure out. If it were something I really wanted I suppose I wouldn't care and maybe that person doesn't know they are receiving a re-gifted gift. Another thing I've been thinking about is how the person that gave you the gift originally would feel if they knew you were re-gifting it. As the original gift giver, I think I'd feel like the person re-gifting didn't like it. Finally is that just too cheap of me? Does it look like I was too lazy and cheap to care about getting someone something new? In some situations it might make sense. For example my sister is a college student so she doesn't have the money to get lots of gifts for people. If I re-gifted to her maybe she would feel like she wouldn't have to spend much on me and I could save her some cash, which I'm more than ok with.

Maybe time will be the main factor in whether I re-gift or not this Holiday Season. Since I’m against Father Time’s Christmas clock and shopping isn’t my strong suit some people might be receiving some re-gifted items this year. If that’s not ok, I’m sorry I’m a Grinch.

Christmas Cards = Embarrassment

Every year people send Christmas cards to their friends, family, and people they haven't talked to in years. I never understood why but that just adds to my list of things I don't understand. One of the top things on my "I don't understand list" is why do people send such awful Christmas cards. If it's the only line of communication between you and your best friend from middle school or your fourth cousin, why are you dressed in an ugly turtleneck with a puce backdrop? Shouldn't you have a photo of you in a convertible in some exotic location?

If you think you've received some bad looking Christmas cards or you yourself have fallen victim to a bad Christmas card by your parents, just be happy you're not these people.

All I Want for Christmas is to Know What To Get Others

If you've been listening this Holiday Season, you might have heard that I'm not the most holiday crazed person. Some people have called me a Grinch. It's not that I don't like Christmas, I do. I love spending time with my family and friends, I like the music and movies (in moderation), and the original meaning for Christmas. The reason people think I'm a Scrooge is because I hate the commercialization of the season. I'm not much for decorating, but those who know me know I shouldn't be decorating anything, I'm terrible at it.

The thing I dread the most is Christmas shopping. I like giving presents, I just hate shopping for them. The main reason is it has the word shopping in it. I'd rather go to the dentist than shop. Plus, I never know what to get anyone. I don't want to give people gift cards because that's lazy. I want to give the "perfect gift." This year I found a website that's a HUGE help. Etsy.com It has a free facebook app that goes through all of your friends' likes and finds gift ideas that correlate. When I first looked into, it I thought it was going to come up with dumb, generic ideas and they'd be mostly the same for everyone. However, the site actually does a great job. Some of the things listed I've actually bought for people in the past. Now that Esty.com helped me with the gift ideas I need to get off my butt and get them. Christmas Eve sounds like a good day for that.

Dying for the Holidays... and to be a Tiger

I know people do a lot of weird things with their pets. When I was filling in for Bart, I talked to the author of "Awkward Family Pet Photos," but those folks have nothing on the new pet craze coming to a pet salon near you. People are now dying their pets to fit the holiday season, or to look like exotic animals. The fad started in China. The most popular dyes make their dogs look like tigers or pandas. The other designs for the pups are festive holidays colors with Christmas trees shaved into there sides.
When I first read the article about dying the dogs, I didn't know what to think. I know people who dress up their dogs for the holidays. My parent's dog never had a sweater or anything but she does have a special holiday collar and my brother's dog named Lambeau better have his Packer bandanna on for Packer games but dying the dog for the holidays? I don't think I would want to do that if I had a dog. However, the dyes that make them look like different animals are honestly pretty cool. I think it'd be fun to be walking your dog that looks like a tiger and see the different looks that you'd get. Plus there's a much lower chance of getting mauled.

$4 Million Crash

As a guy who drove a '93 Dodge Grand Caravan for many years and loved every second of it, you can correctly guess that I'm not much of a car guy. So when people have super nice cars and then wreck those cars, I smirk. When 14 luxury cars are totaled in a multi-car pile up (and no one is seriously injured) I laugh hysterically. That's exactly what happened in Japan earlier this week. A convoy of over 20 luxury cars were speeding down a Japanese highway going about 85-100 mph. One of the cars lost control on the wet road, spun out and collected another 13 vehicles. The crash included eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini and three Mercedes. The cost of all of the cars in the accident was over $4 Million. To compare, when I got rid of my minivan, all I got was $68 for the tires. Now enjoy the photos from the wreckage and remember to drive safely when you're on the roads whether you're in a minivan or a Lamborghini.

No Longer a Need for a Bigger Boat

It's a great movie and it made for a great ride and now...it's going to be gone. The Jaws ride at Universal Orlando is going to be permanently closed on January 2nd 2012. The Jaws ride was one of the original rides in 1990 when the park opened. I remember going to Universal when I was about 10. I couldn't wait to go on the Jaws ride and have my socks scared off and I remember it living up to its billing. If I went back today, sure, I wouldn't be scared, and it probably looks like a cheap plastic shark coming out of the water, but is an original ride. Make an upgrade like Disney did with the "Pirates" ride.

There are just some rides that should never die and Jaws was on top of that list along with "It's a Small World," "The Flight of Peter Pan," and "ET's Adventure," which is now the lone original ride at Universal Orlando. Some of those rides are terrible. "It's a Small World?" That rides is awful but Disney could never get ride of it because it so important to the park's history. I know people want new and exciting rides and the technology is only going to get better to make for better rides. But its also important to preserve the history of the parks because these parks and these rides are a big part of US history and Universal, you just killed Jaws but this time it's not cool.

Happy Thanksgiving

I love the holidays. It doesn't matter if it's Christmas or Mothers Day, I just love spending time with my family. Hanging out, catching up, watching football, and playing four square is what we do best. Out of all the things I have to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving, family is right on top. Things I'm also thankful for.

Football-specifically the Green Bay Packers
Wisconsin- I love the 4 seasons we get here and the people are generally friendly

Good food- I don't eat much but what I do is safe and yummy, plus going back to the Wisconsin comment, I love cheese.

K107.1 Listeners- If it weren't for you people I literally couldn't be doing what I'm doing. I hope you've enjoyed joining me on the 2nd Shift over the past few months and hope you continue to do so. I do really appreciate you tuning into me.

Friends - My friends are right below family. They are always there for me and I my move to Fondy wouldn't have been as easy as it was if it wasn't for them. I know you've been listening or following along so thanks to you.

Family- Once again, you all rock and I'll see you on the 4-Square Field (grandmas driveway) tomorrow.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Thank You Moms

I came across an article today about mothers, and how much time they spend on us (their kids). I know they spent a lot of time raising their children but I didn't think it was this long. How long? How about a third of their waking life! That's equal to about 1,135 days, proving that being a mom really is a 24/7 job. Here's a list of chores that moms do through out a lifetime.

Food shopping 4,155 hours 49 minutes
Cooking 3,603 hours 36 minutes
Tidying 2,620 hours 48 minutes
Washing 2,442 hours 57 minutes
Washing up 2,180 hours and 42 minutes
Ironing 1,787 hours 45 minutes
School run 1,740 hours 57 minutes
Helping with homework 1,544 24 minutes
Cleaning the bathroom 1,506 hours 57 minutes
Appointments 1,432 hours 4 minutes
Taking kids to after-school clubs 1,301 hours 2 minutes
Paying bills 1,240 hours 12 minutes

I'm not saying this to discourage people from having kids or trying to depress women who have kids. I bring this up because moms only get about two days a year that are "their day." Their birthdays and mothers day. Lets look at this...1,135 days life dedicated to their children, 2 days a year dedicated to them. That doesn't add up. So I'm dedicating this day to moms everywhere especially my mom. She's still doing chores for he kids and they don't even live at home anymore.

Thanks mom and moms everywhere for changing our diapers, to making us lunch, to taking us to school, to helping apply for colleges, to teaching us how to bake a potato (I still call my mom every time I make food that's not pizza.) Moms You're the best and it'd be impossible for us to be here without you.

It's Official - I'm a World Record Holder!

In case you missed it, yesterday on "Mornings with Bart" I broke a recordsetter.com world record for wearing more hats at once with 53. You may have already heard, but late yesterday afternoon I received an email from recordsetter.com confirming my world record. Therefore I am now official the recordsetter.com world record holder of most hats worn at once. It's not like Guinness and I don't get a plaque or anything except a spot on the website and possibly a spot in next addition of the book as well as the satisfaction of doing something has never done before. Thanks to those who listened yesterday and followed the progress online on facebook. We'll see if we can't make this a more frequent occurrence, breaking world records.

Scot Frassetto World Record Holder (unofficial for now)

I case you missed it, today on "Mornings with Bart" I've done what has never been done before. I had 53 hat on my head, more than anyone else ever. I broke the previous mark by 2. I need to thank Bart, and MJ for helping me, I couldn't have done it with out them.

A couple of things about the record. First off, hats are heavy. My neck was actually a little sore after about 25 hats. They are also very difficult to balance but I did it. The other thing is, even though it's a really dumb accomplishment and I know that, I'm surprisingly proud of myself. It's a neat feeling being the best at something even if it is a worthless skill or act that I did. I figure that since I've always had a lot of hats and am almost always wearing one why not try and break a hat record.

I submitted the record to recordsetter.com this afternoon and should be hearing from them soon when they make things all official. I'll be sure to keep you posted. If you want to check out all of the videos of me trying you can at k107.com on the bottom of the homepage on our youtube link. Here is my triumphant moment.

Monday Packers Tuesday World Records

I'm very excited for the next few days. Today I get to cut out of work early to watch the Packers on Monday Night Football. Go Pack Go! Tomorrow I'm going to break a world record or two.

What better way to start off the work week? I even forgot that I had a short 2nd Shift Show today because of Packers coverage starting at 5pm. I was excited enough just because of the game tonight but I'll take a few hours off too. I have a feeling tonight is going to be a very exciting game. It's pretty much the Vikings' Super Bowl. I think it'll be much closer than the rest of the games this year. Hopefully the defense can stop Adrian Peterson and doesn't make Christian Ponder look like an MVP. Still, I think Green Bay comes out on top, 26-24 to remain undefeated.

Then on Tuesday, hopefully after a Packers victory, I'll be getting up early to join Bart on the morning show to break some world records. While I was filling in for Bart I interviewed the creators of "The Recordsetter Book of World Records" and I found a record that I think I can take. So, live tomorrow around 7:20am, I'm going to try to wear more hats at once than anyone else ever!!! The current record is 51 held by Scott Reynen from Denver. Lucky for me, if I fail this book of records allows you to create categories so no matter what way you slice it, I'm getting into the record book.

Happy Veterans Day

Most of my posts and most of my show is pretty light hearted. I don't like getting too deep on air or in my blog. I'm not a political talk-show host, I just try to keep it fun. Today is a little different since it's Veterans Day. I just want to sincerely thank everyone who has served or who is serving in the armed forces. You are much braver and stronger than me. I can't even think of how I'd deal with all that you sacrifice for people you don't know and for the most part, people who take what you do for granted 360 days a year. We celebrate you on Veterans Day, 9/11, the 4th of July and a few others but that's not enough, because you protect us 24/7 365.

I was lucky enough to travel to Washington DC last summer for the Honor Flight with my grandpa, who is a WWII Veteran. It was a great experience, seeing all of the vets from America's Greatest Generation's expressions when they were exploring the WWII Monument. The best part was the reception that was put on for them after we got back to the airport in Appleton. It was an honor to walk with them out of the airport with hundreds of people waving flags and holding signs saying thank you. It's something I'll never forget.

That's how it should be everyday for these people who gave up so much for us. Without them I couldn't be doing what I do and I don't and we don't thank them enough. So once again, thank you all for everything you do and have done to keep us safe and free. You are true heroes.

Life is Like Live TV, You Never Know What You're Going to Get

Live TV, you never know what's going to happen. Even though I'm live on the radio I've never had to deal with anything too out of the ordinary, much or less found out that a friend or co-work just won $2 million. Well, that's exactly what happened to this TV station in Vancouver, Canada. A TV station was broadcasting a lottery and the anchors got very excited when the winner was selected because it just so happened to be their co-worker. It ends up making for very interesting television.

Chinese Senior Citizens Have a "Bad Romance"

TV from the East is different. No, not NY and Boston, Asia. I remember watching MXC which is the show that ACB's "Wipe Out" is based off of but with English speaking commentators voicing over the original show. I found this online today and it's not describable so I'll just let you enjoy it. It's from a Chinese TV show.

Also I'm glad to be back in the 2nd Shift after my short stint on "Morning's with Bart". Remember to turn in for Scot E Doesn't Know Trivia on Mon-Wed at 3:45p, the movie quote of the day at 4:30, and don't forget to vote for you Facebook Faceoff Song of the day at www.facebook.com/k107.1 Today we also talked about college majors and how their graduates are fairing in the job market. Here is a link to the list of majors and their grads unemployment rate and median salary.

Photo Bombing Horse and Done with the Morning Show

I'd like to thank all who listened to "Mornings with Bart" these past few days in which I filled in. I had a lot of fun and I hope you did too. Sadly it all comes to an end today (I get to sleep in again!!!) because Bart will be back tomorrow morning bright and early at 6am and I return to my normal spot in the 2nd Shift from 3p-9p.

I'd also like to thank my guest this past week and today. Today we had on Heather from Head to Tail Pet Supplies who will be celebrating their grand opening this weekend. We also had the authors from "Awkward Family Pet Photos" and "The Recordsetter Book of World Records." Both were a lot of fun and gave me some ideas. I don't see why Bart and I can't break a weird record so stay tuned for some crazy ideas in the next couple of weeks because I'm making it into that book! I also think I have a photo that might be able to make it into "Awkward family Pet Photos" too. That is if my mom doesn't kill me for using the photo.

Daylight Savings is Stupid

I think the title of this post explains it all. I don't like losing my hour of sleep. I don't like it getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. I don't like having to remember how and when I have to change my clocks, or in some cases even how to change my clocks. It's honestly been one of my least favorite days of the year since middle school. My idea, GET RID OF IT. It doesn't pay to have anymore. Here's a very fun and smart video I found about the costs of daylight savings time, not including how bad of a mood it puts me in.

Angery Birds vs Pacman

Angry Birds has proven how addicting and popular it is. It's reached a record 500 million downloads in less than two years and has been on top of the charts since it was released in 2009. I don't have a new enough phone to have mobile games but I have played Angry Birds and it's perfect for a mobile game. It's challenging, appeals to many age groups, not too complex and most importantly, addicting. Being the average gamer that I am, I was wondering how other arcade type games would have done in their time if you could have download games rather than play them at arcades, Atari systems, or on a graphing calculator (best part of math class in high school = Space Invaders).

Angry Birds is similar to many Atari games that I've played. It's two dementail, the action goes in one direction, and they involve some thinking. So lets imagine that its 1980 something and you can download those type of games to a smart phone. Lets also pretend that the graphics are up to par with those of Angry Birds. The games that would've competed with Angry Birds for top download spot would be, Space Invaders, Pacman and Asteroid for sure. Heck they are still popular or at least were on the graphing calculators when I was in high school.

Angry Birds, congratulations on being the most downloaded game ever, but be happy you didn't have to go up against the likes of Blinky, Inky, and so on. They would've given you a run for your money.

1st Day in the Morning

Today on "Mornings with Bart" hosted by Scot Frassetto from the 2nd Shift (confusing I know) we had on a few of the stars from UW-Fond du Lac's production of "My Soldiers" which opens tonight at 7:30. It was my first interview here at K107.1. We'll be giving tickets away for that show the next few days so be sure to listen to the morning show. Tomorrow I'll be chatting with Michelle Rector, Special Events Coordinator at the Paine Art Center, Andrea Welsch, Executive Director at the Children's Museum of Fond du Lac, as well as Lt. Gen. Pete Osman about the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Around 8:10 you'll get your chance at Gamblers tickets when we do the movie quote of the day and At 9am we'll play your Facebook Faceoff Song of the Day. Now I'm off to bed, that shift was earlier than I'm used to.

TOMORROW MORNINGS WITH SCOT

You may have been listening to Mornings with Bart today. I stopped by early to get a look at how the pro does the morning show. Why? Because from Wednesday to Thursday I'll be hosting the morning show while Bart soaks up the sun and hopefully a Packers victory in San Diego. What does this mean for you? I wouldn't worry too much because you'll still find your music on K107.1. The difference is I'll be doing the morning show from 6am-noon and then Nick Thomas comes in and will take you from noon to 6pm. I know we'll all miss Bart very much (now I have to wake up in the mornings) but we'll make do until he gets back. I hope to you see bright and early tomorrow on Mornings with Scot (doesn't have the same ring).

Crying Over Spilled Wine

They say you shouldn't cry over spilled milk. But what about a million dollars of wine? There may not have been crying but there were people running when a shelve of almost 7,000 bottles of wine tipped over at a grocary store in Wisconsin. Herer's the video from yahoo with some other weird news too.

In Flight Music

I've done a fair share of flying. At least for a 25 year old who doesn't travel for business. My luck flying has been poor at best, with every flight I've ever been on having some sort of delay or rerouting. I've never been on the same flight as someone famous, heck, I've never gotten a seat next to the hot chick on a flight. So you can imaging my jealousy when I found this video of Mat Kearny performing in flight. Also here's the photo of the burger van getting run over by a Range Rover from our weird news from across the pond.

Halloween Candy and You

I'll admit it, I'm not all that into Halloween. I haven't been since whenever it is you stop trick-or-treating. But when I was in elementary school I loved it. Dressing up and getting free candy, I'm in. It was all about out doing my brother and sister for how much and what kind of candy we got in our little pumpkins and once those filled up too much, pillow cases. When we got home we would dump out all of our candy sort it into categories and then pick what we wanted. So I really like this article from gawker.com. It says you can tell a lot about a persons personality by the candy they give out. Here the article

Tiny Candy Bars-This is now the standard ration for people who show up at the door: one "party sized" treat. This is fair and just. It says that you care about Halloween and traditions and children and family values and all that great American b.s., but you don't care too much. You're doing your duty and, while you're happy to do it, you're not going to go over the top or anything. What kind of candy you give out doesn't really matter, because kids will be happy with any sugary bribe..

Sweet Tarts-Well, it's not just Sweet Tarts but anything non-chocolate based like Skittles or Starburst or Lifesavers or something like that. Like the person who gives out the little "party sized" treat, you're into Halloween and doing your duty, but you want everyone to think that you're a little bit wacky and crazy. You don't like chocolate. No, that's too cliche! You're bright and sunny and fun.

Candy Corn-Who gives out candy corn to trick or treaters? Yes, it is the traditional seasonal treat, but you don't give it out to kids so it gets all clumpy and gross at the bottom of their trick or treat bags. That's nasty. Just put it in a dish on your desk or your coffee table or something. This just means that you're way too into Halloween and not very smart. Also, you don't know what kids like. I sure hope you don't have any.

Tootsie Rolls-Tootsie Rolls are totally the little black dress of Halloween candy. No one goes out and buys Tootsie Rolls normally, but then when you get them at someone's house and you get home and eat them, you're so happy that someone gave them to you. They're simple and different and classic and always great. Who doesn't love a Tootsie Roll? You're probably a very cool and stylish person who has a great wardrobe and a very well-appointed house. People don't think to ask you for advice, but when you give it, it's always spot on. Some people might think you're plain, but, to me, you're just plain great.

Lollipops-Lollipops are always the only thing left at the store on the afternoon before Halloween, because they're sort of lame and kind of an afterthought. You are the kind of person who really feels like he has to give out Halloween candy but you're either too busy or lazy to get to the store before the last possible second, so you have to buy the only thing left, so you get two bags of Dum Dums and hope that the kids will like the mystery flavor because, you're sorry, but this is all you had left and it's going to have to do. Everything in your life is just like those Dum Dums.

Full Candy Bars-You're just an annoying show off. You want to impress all the parents in the hood that you make so much money or you're so cool that you are splurging on giant sized candy bars. When handing these out to kids, whose eyes light up when they see you pull them out of the box from Costco, you're looking in the eyes of their parents thinking, "Yeah, I'm giving your kid an entire Snickers. What?" as you puff up your chest in front of them. Either that or you're so emotionally scarred from childhood that you need everyone's approval, including a bunch of kids you're never going to see again—until next year, when they'll be demanding the good stuff all over again.

Anything Other than Candy-If you pull out some pennies or pencils or McDonald's gift certificates or that fudge you make that everyone in the office says is really amazing or, god forbid, apples, then you are an awful killjoy sadist who should just shut off your light and shun the world. Jerk.

Hersey Kisses-You're really more of a Christmas person, aren't you?

When I'm 82 I Won't Be Killing Moose

When I'm 82 (if I get there) I doubt I'll have the energy and physical skills to do what this 82 year old grandmother from La Crosse did last month. She was on a hunting trip with her son in Canada and shot a HUGE moose from over two football fields away. The moose's' rack was over five feet across. The moose is so big it won't even fit in her house, her son needs to build her a new trophy room for it. Joyce Herlitzke picked up hunting when she was 78 so she could spend more time with her family.

I can't imagine what I'll be doing at that age but I'm sure it won't be killing moose. Hopefully I can be that active though. My grandpa has set a good example for me. He's 91 and he still loves going up north riding around on the ATVs and cutting down trees.

Epic Hot Wheels Track

I love playing with Hot Wheels and seeing this video puts everything I've ever done with hot wheels to shame. Enough of me, lets get to this awesome video of a 2,000 foot Hot Wheels track that goes through 14 rooms.

The track was made for a charity for "Hope for Gabe" which helps fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

College is Broken so Watch IMF Guy Dodge Eggs

I'm stretching today for a title I know. A few recent studies have shown two things about college. One, college students critical thinking skills are not improving according to a NYU study. And two, college costs too much. This is shown because for the first time ever the amount college students took out for loans was more than $100 Billion! With these too things in mind I have to ask myself if college is still worth it? I had a great time in college at UW-O and my major was very practical. We were allowed to use equipment and were put into "real world" situations with our broadcast. But I don't know about other majors, I mean what do you do with a english, or history major besides teach? I can't imagine there being anything practical in those majors. (I'm not picking on English and history majors fyi)

One point that was made is that maybe college students aren't gaining as much because they are teaching just to the degree or maybe too many people are getting into college. This could be, and those students who don't know what they want to do or who are just going to college because it's what their high school guidance counselor told them to do are wasting time and money, lots of money. Technical colleges seem to make more sense in many cases. They are often cheaper and are much more practical than a four year education, which has now turned into a five year education. Did I really need to take four semsters of French?

(Joking) My family history has shown that college makes you dumber. When I went to college and came back for break, my sister who was in high school at the time said I was noticeably dumber than before and I noticed that same thing about her after her first semester in college.

Now to make you feel better about a possibly broken system, here's video of a guy dodging eggs at a speech.

You Look Like...

Have you ever had someone say that you look like someone famous? Sometimes your resemblance to a star is embarrassing, sometimes it can make your day. One of my co-workers today made my day, saying I looked like someone I've even been compared to before...Green Bay Packers wide out Jordy Nelson. How could this not make me over joyous? Mainly because the person I'm most often compared to is the younger brother on Malcolm in the Middle. I found a "I look like a celebrity generator" on myheritage.com and ran a couple of my photos to see what that had to say. I like what my co work said better. I put in 3 different photos of myself and the two names that came up most were Josh Groban and unfortunately Glenn Close. Yea, not cool. I'm not even going to acknowledge the second name so lets tackle the Mr. Groban. Not saying I wouldn't mind being compared to him but he has much longer shaggy hair and darker eyes. I just don't see it so I'm going to stick with Jordy Nelson.

Not on the Menu

You all know that the fast food menus in this country aren't exactly the same as they are else where in the world. For example, you can get beer at a McDonald's in Germany or France. Here is a list of fast food menu items that you won't find in the US. Link. I like a few of these ideas. The Monster Burger from BK's in Japan sounds like something that would actually only be found in the US rather than only Japan. I mean, we are the country that came up with using meat as buns with the KFC Double Down. I also like the Trio Suprimo from BK's in Brazil. Whenever I hear fries smothered in cheddar and bacon I'm all in. Speaking of which, Hardees, how about you bring back your bacon cheddar fries. They were great.

Got Game-ing?

An article in USA Today says that more kids are playing video games. Not really earth shaking news. But the number of gamers is going up and now 91% of kids ages 2-17 are playing games. I found it interesting that the average age of a person who plays video games is 37. I guess I just find it hard to believe 60 year olds are playing Halo. I thought gaming was more of a teen thing. That's when I played most, from middle school to college. I still play but significantly less than those years. I figure the number of children gamers is up because of the new portable ways of gaming with apps on smart phones and other wireless devices. For me, it's still all about the N64. Let's take a trip down memory lane and take a look at some of the best video games in my opinion.

5.) Mario Super Sluggers (Wii) This game is why the Wii was made. Playing baseball with “real” swings and throws is how baseball should be played on video games. Fun, easy game play with fun relevant mini games. Plus you get the added fun with the Mario characters.

4.) Madden 2004 (PS2) This is the best year for Madden in the franchise. It has simple game play without too much being thrown at you. The first game with franchise mode and the best sound track to date.

3.) Super Mario World (SuperNES) It’s the game that gave you Yoshi. It stays true to arcade gaming but added new detentions. It was a great way for Nintendo to kick off a new system. I still enjoy playing it.

2.) Mario Kart64 (N64) I still play this more than any other game I own. People agree. Most used N64 games go for around $7. This game is still over $25 used. With great multiplayer modes and fun, challenging courses it took multi player racing to a new level.

1.) GoldenEye 007 (N64) Much like Mario Kart64, GoldenEye launched first player shooter games into what they are today. Call of Duty, Halo and the like all go back to this game. It’s one of the first multi player first person shooter games and had very challenging levels. I still haven’t passed the entire thing. Plus co-existing with the movie was a great thing too.

Honorable Mention-Super Smash Bros. (N64), Call of Duty (PS3), FIFA Soccer 08 (PS2) Mario Kart (SuperNES), Mario Party (N64), and The Sims (PC)

Animals Attack

I've had a lot of weird animal stories my first month here. The moose in the tree, the moose in the pool yesterday, dolphins racing people (in water of course). Today I had 3 animal stories, the bull in the bar, the antelope and the biker and the turkey and the camera lady. The only difference this time is I found video so you can enjoy the stories just as much as me. The turkey video is especially funny to me because when I was 5 my mom was chased by a turkey while she was pregnant with my sister. It was funny and scary and seeing this makes me laugh. Enjoy.

Things That Don't Work and Things That Better Work

Today I talked about some things that people think do things but actually do nothing. For example, the close door button on elevators, yeah, that doesn't do anything. Also I found out that many office thermostats don't control the temperature in the office either. Here is the complete list of stuff that doesn't work.

Now none of these items really affect me. If I have to wait an extra 7 seconds for an elevator door to close, so be it but what are some things that would upset me if they didn't work when I expect them to?

3.) Hot Water - I don't mind a cool shower every once in a while. It can wake you up in the morning or cool you down on a hot day. However, I don't like stepping into a freezing cold shower unexpectedly or coming in from shoveling in a blizzard and trying to warm up with a shower and only get cold water.

2.) My car - It's one of the most expensive things people own. It's how many of us get around. It better work. A few times my vehicle has died on the road and I had no idea what was wrong with it. Normally I open the door, insert the key and drive, end of story. That's what's supposed to happen and when something else happens I'm at a loss. If it does it again, sorry folks I'm going to be late for work.

1.) Toilets- This one actually worries me. Toilets are supposed to hold waste (the most polite work I could use) and then get rid of it no questions asked. Not many things freak me out more than when a toilet doesn't take away waste like it's done 99% of the time. I'm afraid that the bowl with overflow along with what's in it. I'm not a plumber, I'd have no idea how to deal with that problem and like they say, when you gotta go you gotta go. So my toilet better work.

Halloween Decor and 911

Halloween is becoming the 2nd most celebrated holiday behind Christmas and with that comes decorations. This week some of that decor has prompted some calls to 911. Both were in North Carolina. The first that garnered a call to 911 was a dummy with fake blood splattered on its clothes laying under a riding lawnmower. The other was a dummy clinging from the side of a house with a tipped over ladder next to it.

I think both are very clever and hilarious. I hope that the people who put up the decorations aren't fined and don't have to take them down. It is unfortunate that the police were called into action which wastes their time but that's not the people with the decorations faults. The people that called the cops are idiots. The first thing you do is call 911? Why aren't you jumping into action to try to help? Why are you staying arcoss the street when you could be the solution. If there was a guy hanging from the side of his house and you saw a ladder, would you not help put the ladder up for him. This upsets me, so clever people, keep putting up those crazy decorations.

80's vs 90's Facebook Faceoff

It's your music so starting tomorrow on the 2nd Shift we're going to let you pick what we play. Since I'm partial to 90's hits and Bart is a fan of the 80's we thought we'd see which decade YOU think is the best. Everyday we'll match up a song from the 80's vs a song from the 90s and let you pick. I'm sure you're asking yourself, "how can I pick?" Great question! Just go to K107.1's facebook page and vote on the poll. I'll play the winning song sometime in the 5pm hour (it'll be more specific after we do it for awhile.) So get on facebook and vote, our first match up is Hall and Oats You Make My Dreams Come True vs Wilson Phillips Hold On.

My Tourist Destinations

Travel and Leisure Magazine came out with the most visited tourist attractions in the world. With Time Square in NYC being the most visited. Here is the complete list: Tourist Attractions.

I've been to most of those places, just not the Grand Bazzar or Disney Land in California. I think their list isn't even close. How can a train station be a more visited tourist attraction than the one of the most popular streets in the world, Les Champs-Elysees? I have been there too. So I think that list is garbage I'm making my list of tourist places people should check out.

5. Sadona, AZ- Many of you may have never heard of this place but it is beautiful. It has scenery that compares to the Grand Canyon and has the town like feel of Door County. The best part of my trip out there was the the Pink Jeep Tour. It's like a roller coaster in the wild.

4. Musee de l'Amree (Army Musium) Paris - When people go to Paris they see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, and Notre Dame. The best place I saw in Paris was the Musee de l'Amree which is attached to Napoleons Tomb. It was a beautiful huge building and had war artifacts from every war since King Louis XIV. There is knight armor from King Louis himself. Most of the history in that building is older than this country. If you're ever in Paris, you need to check it out.

3. Niagara Falls- Another beautiful work of nature. I've never seen a bluer river. Plus you can get wet in most of the walk ways or boat rides which I always enjoy.

2. Disney World- It's a magical place and there is something there for everyone weather you are 2 or 92. They have thrill rides, great shows, and you get to meet some of the most recognizable characters ever.

1. Lambeau Field- I tried to leave my sports bias out of this but Lambeau Field is too great to leave out. This history and the environment are great, especially on game days but even on non-game days there is plenty to do. The Packers Hall of Fame is one of a kind and I've been told it's much better than the one in Canton. There is also a great restaurant/bar in the facility. Now they have tours which allows you to get an inside look of the greatest stadium and in my opinion, the greatest tourist attraction in the world.

Ginger Seal Shunned

Lately gingers have been getting the short end of the stick. "South Park" didn't do redheads any favors with the ginger episode a few years ago and last week the worlds largest sperm bank said they are no longer taking donations from redheads. Apparently this discrimination towards gingers is going on throughout the animal kingdom. This baby seal from Russia has been abandoned by its mother and stays away from the rest of the harem of seals.

The redness comes from accumulation of iron in its fur. The poor thing is also nearly blind. The photographer took the pup to an aquarium where it is being cared for. I have many redheaded friends and have a ginger beard myself so this story is sad on a few levels. Gingers need love too so this one is for all of you redheads out there, you guys rock!

Come Back To Theaters

How upset are you if you released a new movie last weekend and lost to a movie that's from 1994? Well it just happened for the 2nd week in a row. One of my childhood favorites "The Lion King" topped "Moneyball" by $2 Million. I might go ahead and see it once again and relive some of that childhood magic. I started thinking about what other movies I'd like to see back in theaters or even better, go back in time and see them when they are actually released.

1st is the Star Wars a New Hope and Empire Strikes Back- I wish I could have experienced the emotion when Luke found out Darth Vader was his father. I can't imagine everyone's shock. Plus a great space movie on the big screen...awesome.

2nd- Terminator 1 and 2- Same thing, great action movie on the big screen.

3rd- Beauty and the Best - When I was little I saw this 3 times in the theater, which is a big deal for a 6 year old or however old I was. I'd love to relive that and see it again, not in one of the megaplexes but in a small town type theater like I did in downtown Menasha or Neenah.

4- Casablanca- It's one of the best films of all time and to see a classic movie, in black in white on the silver screen would give a real sense of old Hollywood.

Morning with Bart

This morning Bart from "Mornings with Bart" was kind enough to let me join him on his show. We talked Packers with Spike and Brain Carriveau. I was kind of ripped a little for picking the Bears over the Packers this weekend. I'm a huge Green Bay fan but I just think its going to be one of those weeks in the NFL where things don't go right for the better team. We also talked to our movie expert Popcorn Jake. He recommended checking out "Moneyball" and "Dolphin Tale" for the family. I'm excited to see "Moneyball." I think Brad Pitt is a great actor and I enjoy Jonah Hill's films plus people love the underdog story.

I was able to join Bart this morning because the 2nd Shift is going to be cut short tonight because Nick Thomas is going to be bringing you some high school football action between crosstown rivals St. Mary's Springs and WLA. Nick starts coverage at about 6:45. On today's shortened show I'm going to talk about how Beyonce wants to start a record label and a boy band. All I can say is I want in.. I've always not so secretly wanted to be in a boy band. Unfortunately I can't sing or dance. (yes that's me dancing at the Timber Rattlers from this past summer). I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend and I'll be back (after today's show of course) for the 2nd Shift on Monday 3pm-9pm.

You Can't (or Shouldn't) Do That!

Today I talked about how playing Adeles "Someone Like You" has been banned in a Dublin piano store because the employees were sick of hearing patrons TRYING to play the song. I understand their frustration. I wouldn't want to hear the same song be butchered over and over again. It got me thinking about things that people should be banned from doing even though I'm guilty of most of these things too.

Singing- I have no problem if you are in the car alone or in the shower and you sing your lungs out. I do it myself. But try and keep it there. Most of us are pretty tone deaf. I know how much fun it is singing to your favorite jam but there is a reason that person is on the radio and you aren't. I'm guiltily of this too but if you catch me doing this, please stop me.

Accents and impressions- When done well, these can be hilarious. When done poorly...well its kind of annoying. Once again I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to trying to do impressions of movie quotes or Sean Connery from SNL but 90% of the time they're not close and not funny. Chances are when you do them you'll have the same results.

The worst part about all of these are people that are singing or doing impressions don't realize that they aren't any good or worse they think they're good. So be a good pal and let your friends know if they are singing poorly or doing bad impressions. It'll save them the embarrassment.

Weird News from Across the Pond

The Weird News from Across the Pond has left me kind of speechless today. It's the story of a boy who as lived in the woods with his father for the past five years. Instead of me telling the story here's the link: Boy in Woods The only thing I really have to say about this I hope its not a hoax and I'll try and keep you up to date as the story develops.

Professor...

For today's Weird News from Across the Pond we looked at a phony professor page on Trinity College of Dublin's website. Their new English professor was Conan T. Barbarian. I think that's a great prank. It's funny, no one gets hurt and it's well thought out. Great writing too.

I started to think who I'd want my professor to be. Of course it's Mr. Feeny. But that's too easy and he was actually a professor. So here a list of unrealistic professors I'd want.

My English professor I'd want Captain Jack Sparrow. He's very well spoken, witty, quick on his toes, and is worldly. What more could you want from a professor, except maybe some hygiene.

My science professor I'd want Dr. Frankenstein (Gene Wilder of course). He knows about biology, chemistry, physics, weather, and electricity. He's knows it all plus what other mad scientist can sing and tap dance like him.

My history professor I'd want Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas. She's a tree. She's been around a while. Plus she's wise and has some good old fashion sass too.
